The Humane Environment
I was reading through the only magazine I subscribe to, MaximumPC, and in an article previewing the Longhorn interface, there was a small item about Jef Raskin, the creator of Apple's Macintosh, and his ideas of a simplistic user interface. He's written a book on it, The Humane Interface (Amazon lets you browse inside), and there is a project on SourceForge to create such an interface. It's interesting stuff if you're involved with any kind of interface design work, and seems to fly in the face of many current computing trends (*nix console excluded).
