Program Price Website Platforms Comments
MisterHouse Free! www.misterhouse.net Windows, Linux, etc. This open-source project supports a myriad of interfaces, and runs on any operating system PERL can be run in. The learning curve is a bit high, but the price and flexibility more than make up for the time spent. Although the user interface isn't as nice as some others, there is raw power behind this program.
HomeSeer $79.95 www.keware.com Windows This program seems to be the favorite in Home Automation Webrings. The interface is very nice, and the backend is powerful. If this program was about $70 cheaper, I'd probably choose it over MisterHouse. But it's not.
PowerHome ???? www.myx10.com Windows This software, still in its beta stages, has an okay interface, but an inhibiting hard-to-grasp setup.
Zeus Home Control $29.00 www.zeushome.com Windows This promising system just didn't float my boat. I forget why
Home Control Assistant $89.00 HCA Home Windows Evaluating - Allows control icons to be placed on an imported floorplan to give a graphical representation. No web interface.
ActiveHome Comes w/ CM11 X-10 ActiveHome Windows Evaluating - This software is bundled in the CM11 kit from X10.com, and provides an easy to set up and understand interface for X-10 control. Macros are easily created and downloaded to the CM11. However, there is no web interface, and there is no provision to do anything except X-10 control.
X-10 System Tray $22.50 D.Huras X10ST Windows Evaluating - A rather simplistic program that puts an icon in your system tray. After setting up items in the configuration menu (one command each for on, off, dim, etc.), you can click on the tray icon to run the command. Seems pretty poor for the price.
