Probably the most interesting aspect of this room is the door security/opening system. Every college
student at GCC has an ID card with a unique barcode on it. Imagine walking up to the door, scanning
your ID card past a small glowing protusion in the wall, and having your door unlock and swing open
for you. And being able to assign a "guest list" with the people you wish to allow access to your
room. This pair of ingenious fellows accomplished such a task using a combination of inexpensive or
free products. The items used are:
X-10 Firecracker Kit (used to be free w/ $5.90 shipping)
The spring hinges already mounted on the door (had to be reversed)
An old actuator motor that was lying around
A piece of string
