School & Job related updates

Well, I'm mostly done with my final program... I just have to finish pretty-fying the output and fixing my overloaded stream insertion operator (or working around it). Tonight is my next to last class!
I was told today that I'm in the group of 11 narrowed down from the original 33 applying for the loan-out. So I figure I have at least a 45% chance of getting it... Also, the job will probably be starting next Monday, as opposed to the originally stated May 1st. So that's good. Hopefully I'll hear the final word tomorrow.

For some reason I randomly decided to learn Perl a little better. I have a little experience with it from MisterHouse, and a little more from playing with CGI's, but never really learned it from the basics up. I found a pretty good tutorial at this UK website, so I've been fooling around with some basic programs. I figure as long as I'm waiting to get into an IT position, I figured I may as well improve my skills...

On Thursday Heather & I went on a shopping spree. She got an eye exam, contacts, and new glasses, and I got a Nintendo gamecube and Super Smash Bros: Melee. Seems fair, right? So since then we've been playing SSB:M quite a bit. It's a fun game. We took advantage of the Electronics Boutique offer where you get a $25 giftcard when buying a console, accessory, and game.

I only have two classes and a final left in my Data Structures class. I'm still getting a 100% in there right now, and the only two grades left are for the last program (9%) and my final (35%). So unless I totally bomb the final, I'll be graduating in a few weeks. Whew.

I had my interview for the loan out on Friday. I think it went pretty well. There are about 33 people applying for the position, and 5 positions available. It's going to be a little less tech-oriented than I had hoped, but at least it's a general move in the right direction while I wait for my diploma. And I'll have regular hours, which will be awesome.

Check out CliffMiller.com, because he has a link to me. And cause we were in the Rhos together. And that makes him cool beyond words. Cooler than monkeys swimming in a pool. Of butter.

A loan out opportunity to the IT department (Help Desk) just came up here at work. I applied, and should be interviewed next Thursday or Friday. The start date for the loan out is May 1st, and the loan out is 4 to 5 months. The best part is I'll be working regular hours, M-F. By the time I'm done with the loan out, I'll have my diploma in hand and hopefully will have an in to the IT dept on a permanent basis.

I recently downloaded the GreatFamily software (which I found on Webattack), and created a family tree for Heather and I. It's pretty neat. It has a very simple interface and generates easy-to-navigate web pages using the data. Best of all, it's freeware.

My aunt and uncle, who are going to Uganda in July for two years of missionary work, are letting Heather and me stay in their house while they're gone. It's quite a blessing, really.

I got an 8/8 on my program, so yee-haw to that, too. The second program is due next Thursday... so I should probably start on that. Last class there were 6 students in attendance. I believe we started with over 30...
