Down with X-Stop
So Grove City College decided to install a new site-blocking program. I can deal with that. What I can't deal with, however, is that X-stop (owned by 8e6 technologies) is blocking access to my favorite freeware download site, WebAttack! Grrr.

Supposedly, they have an advanced crawler that subjects sites to all kinds of criteria before putting them on their encrypted blacklist. If that's the case, there's no reason WebAttack should be on there. So, I decide to download and decode the list myself, but alas, there was no WebAttack. So either the college's install is screwy, or they haven't downloaded the daily updated list, which hopefully is fixed.

I miss my WebAttack...

Just as an update: I emailed both X-stop and the campus administrator... I heard back from X-stop who said that the site was blocked because it was being hosted on a virtual server, and that it would be unblocked in the next update. The campus administrator said he would look into, and I haven't heard from him since. Also, the school apparently doesn't update the blocked sites file daily (that's how often it comes out), because Webattack is still blocked. Grrr.
